Stop press! Wiltshire Gazette & Herald Published:

Gun shop opens with cafe
A new cafe and gun shop has opened at Dauntsey Lock.Clinton Curtis, 46, hopes his new venture will become a community hub and meet the needs of the area's shooting community.
Mr Curtis opened Dauntsey Guns earlier this month and has been surprised by its early success. He said: "There is a big shooting community in this area and there was nothing for them in Malmesbury or Chippenham.
"People had to travel for guns and cartridges".
With the game season currently in full swing Mr Curtis has sold 25,000 cartridges in his first few weeks trading.
The shop also has an internet cafe which Mr Curtis hopes could become an asset for the villages. He said: "I'm hoping this bercomes a community hub. Anyone is welcome to come in and use the facilities. We have tea and coffee but I'm hoping to get some more food in. The Swindon road is very busy and we pick up quite a bit of passing traffic".
A former IT consultant who regularly had to travel across the UK, Mr Curtis chose to open the shop three miles from his home so he could spend more time with his wife Carol and their three children.
He said: "My commute to work is now much better and I get to see a lot more of my family.
So far it's going well".

Dauntsey Guns opened shortly before Christmas following a complete refit of the existing premises. The high security gunroom which is steel lined, took almost 3 months to construct. It is monitored by an advanced CCTV system and an alarm system which provides alerts to Wiltshire Police at their headquarters in Devizes. The refurbishment work was all underaken by local companies including Ian Curtis building contractors based in Great Somerford, JFP Heating (Lyneham), Nick Crotty plastering (Christian Malford) and A4 Security Alarms based in Calne. The shop frontage has been completely reworked to provide the new dedicated parking area.
